Examination & Grading

Course grades will be determined on the basis of a three-hour, in-class final exam, which will consist of multiple choice and essay questions.

The exam will be closed book (i.e., no materials will be permitted in the exam room).

There will also be a practice midterm exam halfway through the semester, which will not be graded and is simply designed as preparatory feedback.

Class participation also will be carefully considered in calculating final grades. Exceptionally strong participation will raise your grade one "step" (i.e., from a B to a B+) and below average participation will reduce your grade one step (i.e., from a B to a B-).
